Why I love shallow dives

The first dive site we went to on the boat today was Nelivaru where we saw octopus, tuna, a massive shoal of glass fish, moray eels and scorpion fish.

Dive Details

The second dive site we went to was only 2 minutes off the coast of the resort island; Landaa Giraavaru. It is called Corner Bodu Thila and is an underwater pinnacle which we swam along the side of, like a wall dive. It was my first time visiting this dive site but I loved it! The average depth was around 12m but I don't mind shallow dives at all, and as this dive proved you often see more marine life in better conditions

Due to the fact the dive was shallower the viz was almost double what it had been on the previous dive and the light was much better, allowing the beautiful colours of the reef to be seen in all their glory! We saw at least 4 different species of moray eels and about 20 of them! There were also octopus, scorpion fish, giant trigger fish, unicorn fish and my new favourite; the blotched porcupine fish

I saw this little guy hiding in the rocks and was fascinated! They look so cute with their smiley expressions, endearing big eyes and round bodies with little fins, that is until they puff up! We were also lucky on our safety stop as we were surrounded by giant batfish who seemed to be fascinated with our bubbles, I even reached out and touched one, which was very surprising as they didn't flinch away like most other fish do!

In the afternoon I gave my first briefing since being here to DSDs and then took them for a dive on the house reef. It was a challenging dive as it usually is with DSDs but a good experience all the same.

Please note: The photos on this post have been taken from google as I was unable to have a camera on this dive
