Rescue Course Day 2

This morning we watched section 3-5 of the PADI Rescue Diver video with our student and then we got in the water to practice; finding an unresponsive diver underwater and bringing them to the surface, towing an unresponsive diver to safety whilst providing rescue breaths and exiting the water with an unresponsive diver.

I played the victim for most of the scenarios and after being dragged out of the water onto the shore I subsequently found half the beach in my bikini despite wearing a shorty wet-suit!

We then did a brief, unplanned search and recovery dive as one of the instructors lost her mask in all the excitement, but luckily another diver had found it and picked it up on their dive.

Diving is fun
(Don't try this at home)

In the afternoon we practiced the lifeguard exit, how to deal with a panicked diver on the surface and the throwing and wading assist.

We then went on a dive in which different members of staff pretended to have a problem which the student had to address. These were: active panic, passive panic and unconscious diver on the bottom and on the surface.

It was a really well taught course and great fun to be a part of, and now there is one more qualified and competent Rescue Diver in the world :)
