This morning I assisted in taking 2 DSDs for a dive on the house reef. We saw a moray eel, giant napoleon wrasse, lionfish and anemone fish! It was a good dive but visibility wasn't great and as soon as we surfaced it started to rain!
I also practiced how to teach a 5 point descent. A proper descent is important as your buoyancy is controlled and it reduces the risk of any unwelcome surprises once you're underwater!
The acronym used to remember how to descend properly is SORTED
1) S: Signal that you and your buddy are ready to descend
2) O: Orientate yourself with your surroundings: descent line, below you and around you
3) R: Regulator in. Swap from snorkel to regulator
4) T: Time, check the start time of your descent
5) ED: Equalise as your descend
Slowly descend whilst controlling your buoyancy and maintaining good eye contact with your buddy
